MISSION STATEMENT

Thenativegaze.com is a Seoul-based, non-profit website that seeks to increase international exposure of contemporary Korean art and visual culture.  Our mission is to promote cross-cultural dialogue around visual art in Korea by publishing bilingual information about galleries and art events in Seoul.  Thenativegaze.com covers and supports emerging local artists and art spaces through feature articles and daily postings, with a special emphasis on non-traditional and alternative art.  We strive to inspire creative interest from abroad in contemporary art in Seoul and also to question the traditional notions of Korean art as defined by both the international and local communities. 

AFFILIATIONS

In addition to local activities in Seoul and internet presence via the website, thenativegaze.com also maintains a relationship with a gallery and design firm in America.  This serves to solidify the cross-cultural and international nature of the project as well as provides a foundation for future projects and collaborations.

222gallery was founded to explore our cultural landscape by presenting work that blurs the traditional boundaries between art and everyday life. Dedicated to expanding our traditional notions of fine art, communication, and function, 222 aims to be an incubator of ideas and a means to engage the public into looking more closely at the objects and environments that surround them, thus fostering appreciation of artistic expression in all its forms. By providing a showcase for artists whose work is meant to be dispersed into our personal environments, 222 hopes to create not just a bridge between fine art, product, and design, but a free-flowing exchange.

otto design group was founded in 1990 to explore the intersections between, Art, Architecture and Design. We are a multidisciplinary collaborative specializing in identity concepts and architectural branding. We assist our clients in the definition, formalization and implementation of their identities into the physical environment. Our designs are both practical and poetic, reflecting the cultural landscape that influences them.
